The Local Cash Cow

Writer's picture: Kelsey DeckerKelsey Decker

The first night I encountered Misty, my heart nearly shattered. Our team went to the park to see what our girl, Niki, gets up to in downtown St. Louis each week. Niki knows this woman well and had prepared us, but nothing could’ve prepared me for what we would witness.

As we ministered to another sex worker, I kept my eye on this woman as her pimp shot her up with fentanyl over and over. She’s seven months pregnant.

Our teammates waiting in the van told me later that a car would pull up, she would get in for three to six minutes, and get back out.

Car after car.

She’s known as the local “cash cow.”

Whether in the streets, illicit massage parlors, or the strip clubs, these women are just “pieces of meat.” I used to be a piece of meat.

I often say every Christian needs to go to this park and get a taste of what’s going on in your own backyards. To understand why there is an urgency to evangelize and bring hope to the hopeless, and life to the lifeless. To truly understand the battle that rages in the spirit realm that we are watching manifest on this earth.

The morning after outreach, I wailed for this woman for two hours, and the intercession was so intense, I nearly wanted to give up and go back home to Indianapolis. But I pressed on.

The next day, we encountered her again at Church in the Park, and this time, many people were able to pray over and speak life into her. I made sure she left with a handmade quilt and food for later.

When you’ve been rescued from the depths of hell, lukewarm Christianity is repulsive.

And when God calls you to go back in and rescue others, religion becomes nonsense.

Following Jesus at any cost is second nature. And having a heart that breaks for what breaks our Father’s heart is what remains.

I took a few quiet days this week fasting with Papa in preparation for our strip club outreach in two days time. Allowing Him to prepare my heart for all we will see and experience. And praising Him for how relentlessly He pursues the lost. His love is seriously extravagant and He goes to the ends of the earth for the one!

I leave tomorrow morning for St. Louis and I’m looking forward to seeing who the one(s) He’s after this weekend!

Morning Glory reaches up to 100 exploited women on our outreaches, bringing them food, nice gifts, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our outreach cost is $25 per woman per month.
