Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:4
Before our last strip club outreach, Ashlee and I had lunch at Latte Lounge in downtown STL. Highly recommend, btw! Much to our surprise there was a row of swings that lined the bar. Ashlee and I are like two kids in a candy store when we’re together, so this excited us to no end.
After lunch, the Lord led us to the Dollar Tree to pick up something fun to add to our outreach gift bags. We left with 60 bottles of bubbles!
That night, a girl in the strip club dressing room squealed, “Bubbles?! I love bubbles!!”
Such childlike joy!
Then, at a prophetic conference last Saturday, there was a moment where the lights were turned off and a time of silence was ushered in.
As people began laying down and the room went quiet (which didn’t last long), Jesus appeared to me and I heard, “It’s preschool nap time.” Jesus proceeded to walk through the room placing blankets on all His children as they napped. It was precious.
The next day after that, the Lord had Ashlee and I prayer driving and walking through the city. We came to a small park and I was led to pull over. I grabbed three mini stakes from my bag and we set off on our mission from God.
The first thing we saw was a playground with swings (again) and we laughed and laughed as we swung like little children. It turned out the park had three corners, one for each stake. We did our thing and left, in complete awe of God.
The very moment we got back in the car, I received a message from my daughter saying she just left church and how they had “encounters” that day. Her joy and innocence was palpable through the phone!
Through all these mini stories, the Lord keeps bringing back to remembrance the importance of childlike faith. The importance of innocence being restored.
So many of us had our innocence stolen through abuse as children. So many of us have had our spiritual innocence stolen through church hurt and trauma. But God is healing, restoring, and redeeming the time!
When we come to the Father as little children, we come to Him in complete and utter dependence. We are reminded that we must rely on Him for absolutely everything.
Remaining childlike keeps us in a state of awe and wonder before our King. It keeps us bowed low before Him. It keeps our heart postured in the fear of the Lord. It keeps us humble before Him and others.
May we walk with Jesus as children of God, with humility, awe, reverence, laughter, and joy!
